SEMIOTICAMENTE
“lettere al mittente” e libri d’artista

La mostra intende mettere in relazione i semi, elementi primari, principio di vita, fondamento di tutto ciò che esiste in natura, con parole e segni, base del linguaggio, di ogni forma di comunicazione e, non da ultimo, dell'espressione artistica. Nella Wunderkammer del Museo di Villa Carlotta, le opere dell'artista italiano Marcello Diotallevi, uno degli interpreti più interessanti della Poesia Visiva e Mail Art, sono esposte accanto a libri/documenti, reperti storici e naturali, e.... semi, offrendo al visitatore spunto per un ideale "viaggio" nel mondo dell'arte. Una piccola stanza delle meraviglie da cui le idee, come semi portati dal vento e... dai visitatori, inizieranno una nuova divertente e spensierata avventura. Nei Libri d'Artista, Diotallevi crea colorati e ritmati, quanto intricati, percorsi alfabetici che si trasformano in armoniche fabule cifrate e racconti ironici e pensosi. Similarmente, nel ciclo Lettere al Mittente, egli cattura l'attenzione per fantasia e ottimismo nel voler comunicare con persone sconosciute e lontano. Egli ha studiato e messo in atto un gioco della "incomunicazione comunicabile" spedendo in tutto il mondo lettere con indirizzi compilati meticolosamente ma, strategicamente imprecisi o errati. I veri destinatari e indirizzi sono posti ben chiari sul retro della busta, dove generalmente si mette il mittente. Le lettere vengono dunque recapitate a persone che non le hanno mai spedite o, dopo lunga peregrinazione, arricchite di timbri, date, annotazioni, testimonianti il lungo viaggio, rispedite al "destinatario/mittente". Le buste contengono una lettera, molto indecifrabile, opera-omaggio dell'artista, e un foglio con la richiesta di rispedire la sola busta a Diotallevi. In questo gioco di scambio di ruoli tra destinatario-mittente-destinatario, le parole seguono così un itinerario circolare che, in modo imprevedibile quanto inevocabile, le portano, come semi, a germogliare in un "altro luogo" in un "altro tempo". |
The concept of
this exhibition is the relationship between seeds, as primary elements, source of life, basis of everything that
exists in nature, and, signs
and words, foundations of all languages, forms
of communications and last, but not least, also artistic expression.
In the Cabinet of Curiosities (Wunderkammer) at the first floor of Villa
Carlotta works by the Italian artist Marcello
Diotallevi will dialogue with a rich display of books/documents,
natural exhibits and seeds, in a sort of ideal
"voyage" in
the field of art. A fun ad carefree adventure in which the ideas seem
to float away, like seeds in the wind, without ever landing. Marcello
Diotallevi will propose his Artist’s Books in which colour, space, rhythm, structure, harmony
and irony play a funny and endless game;
while in the cycle Letters
to Senders he capture the attention for the great imagination, playful
fantasy and optimism in communicating with others, both unknown and
far away. The project is a sort of game of "communicable incommunication". The artist send letters to the four ends of
the Earth, the addresses
are written with great precision, while the names of the addressees
are not; these are indicated on the rear of the envelopes (together
with the exact address) in place of the sender. These cryptic
and mysterious addresses "drive crazy" the post office workers
who try to decipher them, and at last are obliged to return the letters
to the addresses shown on the back of the envelope, the real receiver,
the sender. But, to prove that they have really travelled, the envelopes
become covered with stamps, queries, dates and any other trace of their
completed pilgrimages, understandable signs declaring their very illegibility.
The letters are thus delivered to people who had
never sent them. Inside is a sheet written in an illegible manner, a
gift of the artist, and another sheet requesting the "addressee-sender"
to please send the envelope back to Diotallevi. In this way words, like
seeds, follow a circular itinerary, as unforeseeable as unavoidable,
and go to germinate in "another place, in another time".
